HERSHEY COLUMBIA COTTAGE TO OPEN AUGUST 21 BY HORST PROPERTY MANAGEMENT'S SENIORCARE

DESIGN AND SERVICE BLEND TO OFFER IDEAL RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Manheim Township, Lancaster, PA (September 19, 2000) Horst Property Management (HPM)'s SeniorCare division is proud to open its third Columbia Cottage assisted living residence on August 21. Located in beautiful Hershey, Pennsylvania, this Columbia Cottage will enable area residents to enjoy the same smaller "know-your-neighbors" community that is offered in the Collegeville and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania-properties that HPM also manages. The strong core values of integrity and quality that underlie all Horst Group ventures (not limited exclusively to building and managing retirement communities) are especially evident in the design and commitment to excellent service at all of the Columbia Cottages.

This Columbia Cottage features 53 units and a total of 30,400 square feet. The main house includes living and dining rooms, a fully-equipped, eat-in country kitchen and a cozy library. The country kitchen enables residents to continue preparing favorite dishes for family events or to share prized recipes with friends, in addition to enjoying three homestyle meals provided by the chef at the Columbia Cottage. "Two marvelously landscaped courtyards will be used for recreational activities, enabling residents to enjoy the outdoors whenever weather permits," comments Jim Brandt, president of HPM's SeniorCare. Tim George, managing director of the Columbia Cottage, says that he loves to see visitors' reactions as they walk in the front door, surrounded by warm, welcoming tones that "make them feel as if they have entered a lovely, private home."

Several Horst Group companies worked in concert to successfully develop and open this Columbia Cottage: It was designed by Cornerstone Design-Architects and built by Horst Construction, capitalizing on the company's 120-year tradition of building experience. The $2.7 million building project was managed and completed ahead of schedule by Wayne Heisey and his team who originally projected an autumn opening. Horst Excavating, Horst Masonry and Horst Painting contributed to the construction process. Horst Property Management's development department and Horst Insurance also played significant roles.

While fantastic aesthetics and design are crucial elements of the Columbia Cottage's appeal, Brandt knows that "good people make the difference." "Selecting Tim George as managing director has been a wonderful experience because of his absolute commitment to finding creative ways to constantly improve customer service," Brandt comments. The Columbia Cottage staff makes a commitment to serve each resident with just the "right help at the right time." Using a unique 4+-step process, the resident, his or her family and the staff will work together to guarantee the highest independence and satisfaction with quality of life for that resident. Services will be regularly reevaluated to ensure that services provided are the best they can be. George declares, "Good service means that we must listen well to our residents and their families, respond in ways that exceed their expectations and show the utmost honor to their lives and values."

Columbia Cottage's information director, Orla Nugent, considers it her privilege to make this phase of residents' lives as fulfilling as the rest, and encourages interested individuals and families to call 717.832.2900 for more information about the Columbia Cottage living experience. The residence offers 11 choices of size and price within the 53 apartments. Prices range from $1,970/mo. for a private apartment with a shared shower to $2,850/mo. for a spacious apartment with a private patio opening to the courtyard. Quality features such as extra insulation between apartments, large picture windows, spacious closets, abundant outlets and individually controlled heating and cooling are just a few of the added benefits residents might enjoy as a result of downsizing from their former homes.
