Horst Construction Breaks Ground for Phase II Construction at Garden Spot Village

May 25, 2000 (New Holland, Pennsylvania) Horst Construction will break ground at 10 am on May 26 for Phase II of Garden Spot Village’s (GSV) impressive 200,000 square-foot expansion on the north east side of their existing New Holland campus. On May 31, Horst Construction will begin work on Garden Spot Village’s dynamic multi-use facility which includes a 65-unit assisted-living complex, skilled-care beds and 21-bed dementia unit supported by a "Village Square" with an indoor park area, chapel, swimming pool, bank, beauty salon, offices and other support facilities.

Horst Construction’s director of project management Dennis Cunningham is honored that one of the fastest growing retirement communities in Eastern Pennsylvania has again selected Horst Construction to support GSV’s continual expansion, saying, "We’re glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of Garden Spot Village’s team to enhance its community over the years through building additions to the Gardens West and South apartment buildings, as well as a state-of-the-art kitchen and café area. The leadership team is a great group of people with a clear vision of what the senior population wants and needs." This project for GSV will be performed during regular operations and completed during the summer of 2001. The contract amount is undisclosed.

Other team members: The facility was designed by Beers, Schillaci and Hoffman, Ltd. RGS Associates is performing the site engineering, Rettew Associates, the mechanical and electrical engineering, and Evans Engineering, the structural engineering. Horst Excavating will do the building excavation and Horst Painting will provide the interior painting and wallcovering. Daniel L. Burkholder, Inc., Excavating prepared the site for construction.

On March 31, 2000,Garden Spot Village opened their latest addition, Gardens South Apartment Suites (a new five-story building addition that adds 81,659 square feet, offering an additional 61 resident apartment suites), which has already been filled with residents.

Garden Spot Village’s executive director Nevin Kraybill is enthusiastic about entering a new building project with Horst Construction. With the tremendous demand and growth for GSV’s unique blend of just-like-home living and necessary support services, Kraybill says, "I am eager to offer these additional services to the community and confident that Horst Construction will ensure the process goes smoothly and complete the project in a timely manner."
